Access to Information
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Article 35 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 gives every citizen the right of access to information held by the State. KenGen gives effect to this right in line with the Access to Information Act, 2016.
1. Information Published Proactively
Much procurement information is already available on this portal without a formal request:
- Open tenders and their addenda under All Tenders.
- Contract awards under Awards.
- Supplier guidance under Supplier Manuals and General Guidelines.
- Financial disclosures under Financial Reports.
2. How to Make a Request
- Submit your request in writing to tenders@kengen.co.ke, giving enough detail to identify the information you need and the format in which you would like to receive it.
- If you are unable to make a written request, call +254 020 3666 008 and we will help you put it in writing.
- Include your name and contact details so that we can respond.
3. Timelines and Fees
We will make a decision on your request as soon as possible and in any event within the period set out in the Access to Information Act, 2016. Access to information is free of charge; where copies are provided, any fee will not exceed the actual cost of making and delivering them.
4. Exempt Information
Some information may be withheld where the Act permits, for example where disclosure would harm the commercial interests of a third party, compromise an ongoing procurement evaluation, or involve an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. If a request is declined, we will give reasons in writing.
5. Review
If you are dissatisfied with our decision on your request, you may apply to the Commission on Administrative Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) for a review.
